I really enjoyed this report Chris-san. Usually pics i see of Hawaii are just the usual touristy type spots. It's really neat to see what the ancients did there.

Your casual way of writing, without going into alien-induction-into-the-hall-of-fame hysterics is very refreshing.

I'll be looking out for spots to recommend to you over here in Japan. What might be some guidelines? There is lots of old stuff here, like the oldest wooden building in the world (1,200y.o.?), but i'm really not up on the ancient sites.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Years to you Smile

Hi, if you're looking for something interesting you might want to research
Yonaguni, if you ever have a chance to scuba dive in that area it would be really cool to see some pictures.

Just doing a quick search on google will bring up some sites on Yonaguni.

Daniel-san,

Japan is a wonderful and fascinating country. I had the oportunity to travel across it for a weeks two years ago and I'm really dying to go back. I didn't really get the chance to explore any mysterious sites though as my time was mainly taken up with visiting tourist attractions, electronics stores and sushi bars.

I just fired up the database I use here to keep track of unexplained sites and I found a few things in Japan:

1) If you want to find haunted places or go looking for monsters, try this web site:
http://www.nichibun.ac.jp/youkaidb/
They maintain an extensive database with over 13,000 entries on monsters and ghosts.

2) Moe's suggestion of going scuba diving off Yonaguni island is a good one, although I believe recent data seems to suggest that this site is natural.

3) At Mt. Kasagi in Gifu Prefecture there are a number of mysterious miniature stone pyramids measuring 7 feet high and 14 feet square.

Unfortunately, I think its hard to get good data about the unexplained from Japan. In fact most of Asia seems to be underrepresented in most books dealing with mysterious or unexplained sites. I don't think this is because there's a lack of research, but rather that very little of it gets translated into English and reaches us in the West.

If you want to explore unexplained sites in Japan and you speak Japanese, then I would start by going down to your local library or bookstore. Look in sections about Local History, Travel, Archeology, and Metaphysics and see what you can find. I think Japan is probably full of surprises if you can read the language and you have some time to search. If you come across anything interesting, please let us know!
