I've got an experience that might of interest here.
About 5 years ago I left England with my family (i was about 1 to go on a three-week holiday tour in America: Chicago, Phoenix and San Francisco. We stayed with some friends in Phoenix and hired a car to go travelling for a few days to the Grand Canyon, Monument Valley and north to Mexican Hat for a stopover.
I remember going to bed in the motel that night - The San Juan Inn, right on the banks of the San Juan river - and I had a blocked ear! I did all that I could to try and unblock it but it just wouldn't work, and so I went to bed with it still blocked.
During the night I was aware of a presence in the room at the end of the bed. It was like being awake but still kind of aware that I was dreaming, and I have memories of a white haze of soft light appearing. Then, almost blinded from the light, a man stepped forth. It felt as though I was somehow both indoors and outdoors at this point. The man was of a native tribe (I'm not sure which one, but the Inn was built on Navajo land) and wore a full head-dress of feathers and in his hand was a stick with feathers and tassels on it.
He said to me in clear English, "I can cure that for you," and with one point of his stick my ear suddenly became unblocked and I could hear perfectly well again. Almost immediately the man vanished and I must have wandered off into sleep again. Later that night, I experienced two other events - another presence in the room of which I was only mildly aware of, and what might have been a brief out-of-body experience.
Anyway, if anybody has had a similar experience or indeed at Mexican Hat, I would love to know and perhaps some more investigations can be done there. I have recently become interested in the theory of 'dreamtime landscapes,' or at least the notion that dreams can be affected by the land that we sleep on. _________________ "The images of myth are reflections of the spiritual potentialities of every one of us. | Hi...Koyaanisqatsi...That motel you stayed in was owned at 1 time by my family, was raised in that country from 1968 untill 1985, was the greatest country to be raised in as a boy.Learned many mythes and legends of that country and the Navajo. Knew the man that founded the town personally, grew up with his boys a little older than me tho.I have seen fires start up out of the middle of nowhere, been in a canyon where nothing lived ,no plants, bugs or even a bird.Have been chased by a legendry figure in a local town of Bluff(his name is Elmo, bad man), altho I never actually saw him?,grown man that was with use was very scared.Have honestly seen Skinwalkers, was attacked once on a camping trip, Thing ran thru late in the nite grabbed mine and a friends sleeping bags and attemped to drag us off, couple of shots from a 30-30 some how changed its mind.I do not believe it was real, but do believe the person thinks he is real. The area of Mexican Hat is beautiful and very strange. Was just browsing and found this site, joined only to write you this letter and ask when you where there. |

This is a fascinating discussion. I've never traveled through Mexican Hat myself though.
Koyaanisqatsi, I assume that when you speak about dreams being altered by the land we are sleeping on, that you have read the latest issue of Fortean Times. It has an article on this specific phenomena. If you haven't read it, I would recommend checking it out.
Mexican Hat Kid, that's an amazing coincidence that you stumbled across this forum, but I'm glad you did. I've heard some pretty compelling stories about Skinwalkers from some very reputable people and I think there might really be something to it, but I can't claim to have ever seen one myself.
